A Tapestry
A tapestry, he called it — every person, every kindness, every hardship, a thread. Eddie Ray’s own runs from a hillside above Franklin, North Carolina, where his grandfather had been born enslaved in the Cane River Valley, to the executive suites of the American record business, to a federal appointment in Washington, DC, and back home again to the Hall of Fame he helped rebuild.
